UNABLE TO START EDS3 - NETWORK BOARD MISSING, DEFECTIVE, OR IMPROPERLY CONFIGURED:

  1. Refer to page 2-6 through 2-9 in the Getting Started With EDSIII manual.
  2. If the network PCB is configured for IRQ3, Com2 must be disabled in the computer.
  3. In the Melco Apps program group, double click on the Config icon, then on the Hardware button. Set the Network IRQ to 3 and the DMA to 1.
  4. From a DOS prompt type: MSD and press the ENTER key.
  5. Select COM ports from the main menu. COM2 should show as N/A. If it does not, then COM2 is either enabled in the computer or there is another device configured for COM2 (i.e. fax modem).
  6. If MSD shows COM2 as N/A, then from a DOS prompt type: MEM /C /P and press the ENTER key. Look for IXPORT under the NAME column.

UNABLE TO START PERIPHERAL NETWORK - NETWORK BOARD MISSING, DEFECTIVE OR IMPROPERLY CONFIGURED:

  1. Refer to page 2-6 through 2-9 in the Getting Started With EDSIII manual.
  2. In the Melco Apps program group, double click on the Config icon, then on the Hardware button.
  3. Set the Network IRQ to 3 and the DMA to 1.
  4. Go into the Main program group in Windows and double click on the Control Panel icon.
  5. In Control Panel, double click on the Ports icon. In Ports, double click on the picture for COM2, then the Advanced button.
  6. Set the Base I/O Address to 02F8 and the IRQ to 7. Click on the Don't Restart Now button.
  7. Click on the Close button. Double click on the picture for COM4 then the Advanced button.
  8. Set the Base I/O Address to 02E8 and the IRQ to 7. Click on the Restart Now button.

DONGLE MISSING OR DEFECTIVE:

  1. Insure the Dongle has been securely attached to LPT1. (See page 2-3 in the Getting Started With EDSIII manual).
  2. Turn the computer off. Remove the dongle and clean the dongle and plug in the computer. Canned air works good as long as it is not real dirty.
  3. In the Melco Apps program group, double click on the Config icon, then on the Options button.
  4. In the S/N # field check to see if the number matches what is written on the dongle.
  5. If you see the word 'Dongle Problem' in the S/N # field, the dongle may need to be replaced. Contact your distributor for further assistance.
  6. Disconnect any printers or scanners that is plugged into the dongle.

CANNOT FIND DESIGN FILE ON COMPUTER HARD DRIVE:

  1. Refer to page 1-10 and 1-11 in the Getting Started With EDSIII manual.

APPLICATION ERRORS AND GENERAL PROTECTION FAULTS:

These errors can be caused for several reasons, however here are a few basic suggestions to try.

  1. Go into the Main program group in Windows and double click on Control Panel.
  2. In Control Panel, double click on 386 Enhanced icon.
  3. Click on the Virtual Memory button. It is recommend to have a 12meg or larger Permanent swap file set. Use the largest file recommended by Windows.
  4. Also in the Main program group, double click on the Windows Setup icon and set the Display driver to the standard Windows VGA or Super VGA video driver.
  5. To change the Display driver, click on Options on the menu bar, then Change System Settings in the drop down menu.
  6. Click on the down arrow to the right of Display and scroll through the video driver options to find the VGA or Super VGA driver.
  7. Click on the OK button. Windows will issue a message asking for one of the Windows Installations disks, or indicate that there is already a driver on the hard drive. If the driver is already on the hard drive, you will have the option to select the Current driver. Click on the Restart Windows button when prompted.
  8. If the errors continue try reloading EDSIII. If no help re-install Windows.
  9. If the errors continue, contact a local computer technician for further assistance.

CANNOT TRANSFER FILES TO PERIPHERAL - PERIPHERAL NOT ON-LINE:

  1. Check for loose cables at the peripheral and computer.
  2. In EDS3, click on Peripheral button then the Transfer button.
  3. Click on the Setup button and highlight all Number(s) that correspond to the Unit Number(s) the peripheral(s) are configured for.
  4. Refer to page 11-1 in the Getting Started with EDSIII manual.

MOUSE LOCKS UP WHEN DOUBLE CLICKING ON EDS3 ICON:

  1. Most likely, the problem is the mouse is using the same IRQ that the Melco Network PCB is using. If your computer is using a Melco bus mouse, insure the IRQ on the mouse board is set to IRQ 5.

MOUSE ONLY MOVES VERTICALLY OR HORIZONTALLY, OR ERRATIC MOVEMENT:

  1. Try powering off the computer and reseating the mouse connector into the back of the computer.
  2. If after reseating the connector there is still a problem, try changing the mouse driver.
  3. If your computer is using a Melco bus mouse, the mouse driver can be set to either Logitech or Microsoft or IBM PS/2.
  4. To change the mouse driver, go into the Main program group in Windows and double click on the Windows Setup icon.
  5. Click on Options on the menu bar. Then click on Change System Settings in the drop down menu. Click on the down arrow to the right of the mouse driver and select either the Logitech or the Microsoft or IBM PS/2 driver. Click on the OK button. Windows will issue a message that will either ask for one of the Windows installation disks, or indicate that the driver you have selected is already installed on the hard drive. If the driver is already installed on the hard drive, you will have the option to use the current driver installed on the hard drive. You must then restart Windows for the change to take effect.

CANNOT READ FLOPPY DISK:

  1. For DOS formatted disk's, click on File, then Open.
  2. Click on the File Type (i.e. CND, EXP, OFM).
  3. Double click on the file name you wish in the FILES box.
  4. For Non DOS formatted disk's, click on File, then Import (see Chapter 6. Using Import and Export with Floppy Disks in the Getting Started With EDSIII manual).

PALETTE BAR MISSING:

  1. In EDS3, click on View in the menu bar, then on the Palette in the drop down menu.
  2. In the Palette Dialog Box, click a check mark in the Display Palette box, and then click on the OK button.

STATUS BAR MISSING:

  1. In the EDS3 program, click on View on the menu bar, then on Status Bar in the drop down menu.

STANDARD FILE NAMES FOR ALL EMBROIDERY FORMATS:

  1. Refer to pages 6-8 through 6-10 in the Getting Started With EDSIII manual.

CANNOT ACCESS LETTERING - TOOL BAR "A" IS GRAYED OUT:

  1. In the Melco Apps program group, double click on the Config icon.
  2. In Config, click on the Options button on the right side of the screen.
  3. Check for Lettering to be Black or Bold print. If Lettering shows up in Black or Bold print, contact your distributor.
  4. Disconnect any printers or scanners that is plugged into the dongle.

STITCH PROCESSOR NOT WORKING:

  1. Go into the Config Icon in the Melco Apps program group.
  2. Click on the Options button, and see if the Stitch Processor option is in Black or Bold lettering, or if the lettering is grayed out.
  3. If the option is not grayed out, contact your distributor for the Stitch Processor password.
  4. If the option is grayed out, then go into the Main program group in Windows. Double click on the File Manager icon. Click on the EDS3 directory and look for a file named called EDSSP.EXE.
  5. If the file is missing re-install EDS3.

STITCH PROCESSOR NOT WORKING IN EDS3 V2.00 AND ABOVE:

  1. Go into the Main program group in Windows 3.x.
  2. Double click on the PIF Editor icon.
  3. Click on File on the menu bar, then on Open in the drop down menu.
  4. Select the EDSSP.EXE file and in the Execution option, click an 'X' in Background.
  5. Install Keymake program (if you have it) to enable the option.

SCANNER NOT WORKING IN EDS3:

  1. Insure the software driver that came with the scanner is installed.
  2. Contact the scanner manufacturer for further information.
  3. Also check the Windows Virtual Memory (refer to Chapter 7 in the Editing and Tablet Digitizing in EDS3).

'DIGITIZE' IS GRAYED OUT IN THE EDIT DROP DOWN MENU:

  1. Double click on the Config icon in the Melco Apps program group.
  2. Click on the Options button. Look to see if 'Digitizer Tablet' is black or grayed out. If it is grayed out means the option is enabled
  3. If the lettering is in black print, contact your distributor to upgrade your software.

DIGITIZING TABLET NOT RESPONDING IN EDS3:

  1. Refer to page 2-5 and 2-6 in the Tablet Digitizing and Editing manual.
  2. In the Melco Apps program group, double click on the Config icon.
  3. Click on the Hardware button. (If the Digitizing tablet is attached through a Stargate board, refer to page 2-8 in Getting Started with EDSIII manual and page 2-4of the Tablet Digitizing and Editing manual.) Make sure there is not a Check mark on Use COM Ports box. It is usually set to Primary I/O and IRQ 4.
  4. If the digitizing Tablet is not attached through the Stargate board, refer to page 2-8 in the Getting Started With EDSIII manual and page 2-4 of the Design Editing and Editing manual
  5. Click a Check mark in Use COM Ports. Click on the OK button. In the Serial Devices box, click on the appropriate tablet size (usually large) and what COM Port the tablet is hooked to, (usually COM1).
