Product: Superstar I and Starlet I

Part Replaced: Stepper(s)/Mother Board

Required Tools:
bullet#2 Phillips Screwdriver
bulletSlotted Screwdriver
bullet5/32 Allen Driver
bulletAnti-Static Wrist Strap

Procedure:

  1. Turn the machine off and unplug the Power Cord (Figure 1-A) from the wall outlet.
  2. Remove the screw holding the Right Hand Arm Cover (or Shroud). Raise the Arm Cover by lifting the front edge of the Cover (Figure 1-B). Move the Arm Cover all the way up, until the Safety Latch catches it in the up position.
  3. Remove the three Holding Screws (Figure 2-C) from the Stepper Retaining Bar (Figure 2-D), and remove the Retaining Bar.
  4. Put on the Anti-Static Wrist Strap and attach the end to any exposed metal part of the machine.
  5. Unplug the five-wire Connector (Figure 2-E) from the right side of the Mother Board (Figure 2-F). NOTE: This plug must be removed any time the steppers are removed. Even though the machine is turned off and unplugged, a residual electrical charge strong enough to damage electronic components may still remain.
  6. Unplug the six-pin Connector (Figure 2-G) from the Stepper to be removed.
  7. Remove the Stepper (Figure 2-H) by pulling straight up on the black fins on the rear of the Stepper. If you are replacing the Mother Board, remove all three Steppers, then continue with step 8. If you are only replacing the Stepper(s), go to step 13. NOTE: Remember the orientation and position of each plug as you remove them.
  8. Unplug the four-pin Connector (Figure 2-I) from the right side of the Mother Board. Unplug the two control plugs (Figure 2-J) from the left side of the Mother Board. Unplug the blue Ribbon Cable (Figure 2-K) from the center of the Mother Board.
  9. Locate the six small white Retaining Posts (Figure 2-L) around the edges of the Mother Board. Depress the center holder of each Post and gently lift up on the edge of the Board.
  10. When the Mother Board is free from all of the Retaining Posts, move it toward the rear of the machine far enough to clear the Table Top, then remove.
  11. Move the new Mother Board into position on the Retaining Posts and press down on the edges to snap the Board securely onto the Post.
  12. Re-install the Connectors removed in step 8.
  13. Install new the Stepper(s) onto the Mother Board by positioning the bottom Connector over the appropriate Connector on the Mother Board. NOTE: Insure that the Stepper Pins mate correctly with the jacks on the Mother Board and that no wires or cables are pinched between the Stepper and base. Press the top of the Stepper to seat the pins firmly.
  14. Install the Plugs removed in steps 5 and 6.
  15. Install the Stepper Retaining Bar.
  16. Lower the Arm Cover and install the retaining screw.
  17. Plug the Power Cord into the rear of the machine. Turn the machine on and perform a test sew out.
