Product: SUPERSTAR 1

Part Replaced: 5/12VDC Power Supply

Required Tools:
bullet3/8 inch socket and driver
bullet#2 Phillips head screw driver
bulletSmall Slotted screw driver
bulletDigital Voltmeter

Procedure:

Physical Replacement:

  1. Turn the machine off and unplug the Power Cord from the wall outlet.
  2. Remove the Power Plug (Figure 1-A) from the Power Supply Unit (Figure 1-B).

WARNING! THE POWER SUPPLY UNIT IS VERY HEAVY. REMOVING AND REPLACING THE POWER SUPPLY UNIT REQUIRES TWO PEOPLE, ONE TO HOLD THE UNIT AND ONE TO REMOVE AND REPLACE THE RETAINING NUTS.

  1. While holding the Power Supply Unit tightly in place, by pushing up forcefully on the unit, unscrew the four nuts (Figure 1-C) holding the Power Supply Unit to the machine.
  2. Carefully lower the Power Supply Unit and take it out from under the machine.
  3. Remove four Phillips screws (Figure 1-D) holding the Perforated Screen to the Unit, and remove the Screen.
  4. Remove the two white Connectors (Figure 2-E) from the 5/12VDC power supply (Figure 2-F).
  5. Remove the four Phillips screws holding the 5/12VDC Power Supply in the Power Supply Unit, and remove the Power Supply.
  6. When installing new 5/12VDC Power Supply into the Power Supply Unit, make certain that all four Phillips screws are snug.
  7. Reinstall the Power Supply Unit under the machine with the four nuts removed in step 3.
  8. Reinstall the Power Plug in the Power Supply Unit.

Voltage Adjustment:

NOTE: The voltage on the new Power Supply is set low to avoid any over voltage damage to your machine. You will have to adjust the new Power Supply to the correct voltage, using a Digital Voltmeter.

  1. The +5.10 VDC can be measured from several different places in the machine. The easiest is on the Mother Board, located under the Keyboard. Remove the locking screw and lift the Right Shroud Arm to the full up (locked) position. Locate the 5-pin white Connector on the right edge of the Mother Board, just behind the back edge of the table top.
  2. Plug the Black lead of your Digital Voltmeter into either of the two pins with black wires. Plug the Red lead into the pin with the red wire.
  3. Plug the Power Cable into the machine and turn it on.

WARNING! POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS VOLTAGES EXIST INSIDE THE POWER SUPPLY UNIT. DO NOT TOUCH ANY COMPONENTS WHILE ADJUSTING THE VOLTAGE.

  1. Locate the Voltage Adjusting Potentiometer, R24 (Figure 2-G). Using a small Slotted screw driver, adjust the potentiometer so that the voltage indicated on the Digital Voltmeter reads 5.10 volts DC, +/- 0.02 volts.
  2. After the voltage has been adjusted, turn the machine off, disconnect the Voltmeter leads, and reinstall the perforated screen, using the screws removed in step 5.
  3. Lower the Right Shroud Arm and secure in place.
  4. Turn the machine on and perform a test sew out.
