Parts Replaced: Needle Bar

Required Tools:
bulletSmall Slotted Screw Driver

Procedure:

  1. Turn the peripheral off and unplug the Power Cord.
  2. Unthread the Peripheral.
  3. Remove the two Socket Head Cap Screws and washers holding the Tensioner Assembly (See Figure 1-A) to the Needle Case (See Figure 1-B).

  1. Slightly lift the Tensioner Assembly and unplug the flat blue Ribbon Cable. Place the Tensioner Assembly aside.
  2. Remove the Needle Case Cover by unsnapping it from the Needle Case Assembly. Snap area indicated by the dashed lines. (See Figure 1-C)

  1. Loosen the Needle Clamp Set Screw (See Figure 2-D) and remove the Needle from the Needle Bar to be changed.
  2. Continue to loosen the Needle Clamp Set Screw enough to remove the Needle Clamp (See Figure 2-E) from the Needle Bar.
  3. Loosen the Needle Bar Driver Set Screw (See Figure 2-F).

NOTE: Be sure to hold on to the Needle Bar when performing the next step, since it will release tension on the Needle Bar Spring.

  1. Loosen the Upper Dead Stop Clamp Set Screw (See Figure 2-G).

NOTE: When removing the Needle Bar, take care not to drop or lose the components being held in place by the bar.

  1. Slide the Needle Bar out of the top of the Needle Case. As the Needle Bar slides out, lay the following components aside for use when re-assembling:
  1. Lower "O" Ring (See Figure 2-H)
  2. Upper "O" Ring (See Figure 2-I)
  3. Presser Foot (See Figure 2-J)
  4. Lower Needle Bar Spring (See Figure 2-K)
  5. Needle Bar Driver (See Figure 2-F)
  6. Upper Dead Stop Clamp (See Figure 2-G)
  7. Upper Needle Bar Spring (See Figure 2-L)
  1. Lightly oil the new Needle Bar.
  2. Slide the Needle Bar into the Needle Case, making sure to replace all of the components removed in step 10.
  3. Replace the Needle Clamp (from step 7), but do not install the needle yet.
  4. Rotate the Needle Bar so that the Needle Clamp Set Screw points at a 45° angle to the right.
  5. Hold the top of the Needle Bar level with the rest of the Needle Bars in the Needle Case, slide the Needle Bar Driver to where it is even with the rest, and tighten the Needle Bar Driver Set Screw.
  6. Install the Needle.
  7. Plug in the Power Cord and turn the peripheral on.
  8. After the peripheral downloads, move the Needle Case to the Needle Bar just changed.
  9. Using the "H E A D TIMING MENU" functions, go to Head-Up, One Revolution, then to Needle Depth.
  10. Slightly loosen the Needle Bar Driver Set Screw and set Needle Depth.
  11. Using the "H E A D TIMING MENU" functions, go to Hook Timing, then press the [RIGHT ARROW] key nine times.
  12. Slide the Upper Dead Stop Clamp up until it is firmly against the black Rubber Stop at the top of the Needle Case and tighten the Set Screw.
  13. Using the "H E A D TIMING MENU" functions, go to Head-Up.
  14. Turn the peripheral off.
  15. Plug the blue Ribbon Cable back into the connector on the bottom of the Tensioner Assembly.
  16. Replace the Tensioner Assembly on the Needle Case, using the Socket Head Cap Screws and washers removed in step 3.
  17. Replace the Needle Case Cover.
  18. Re-thread the peripheral.
  19. Perform a sew out test.
