  1. Question:
    Is there an upgrade from Melco Sizer to Melco Letera?

    Answer:
    No, we do not offer an upgrade from Melco Sizer to Melco Letera. However, if you own Melco Sizer and load Letera, the program will automatically upgrade to the Letera level since Melco Letera includes all the features and functionality of Melco Sizer. To show our appreciation to those customers who have purchased both Melco Sizer and Melco Letera, you can download five free alphabets by contacting Melco-Service using the support form.

     

  2. Question:
    Will Melco Letera also scale designs?

    Answer:
    Yes. Melco Letera is not just a lettering program. Melco Letera contains all the functionality of Melco Sizer such as scaling designs with automatic stitch adjustment, rotating and transforming designs, combining designs, 3D view, thread charts of major thread manufacturers, thread chart matching, and the ability to read/write major home and commercial embroidery formats.

     

  3. Question:
    Where can I find the designs that come with Melco Letera?

    Answer:
    The designs are automatically stored on the C: in the Designs folder when Melco Letera is installed, unless you specify another location.

     

  4. Question:
    How can I locate the Melco Letera Tutorials?

    Answer:
    Click on the Help menu at the top of the page. Then click on Tutorial. You will automatically go to the tutorial section of Melco Letera where you can choose from seven different lessons.

     

  5. Question:
    Is there a demo version of Melco Letera I can try before I purchase?

    Answer:
    Yes. You can download a demo version of Melco Letera at www.melco-service.com/letera.

     

  6. Question:
    Does Melco Letera read/write the Janome .jef format?

    Answer:
    At this time, Melco Letera does not support the .jef format. However, Melco Letera does read/write the .sew format. Please check back periodically for updates.

     

  7. Question:
    Does Melco Letera read/write the new brother PES version 4.0?

    Answer:
    Yes, Melco Letera will read/write the new PES version 4.0.

     

  8. Question:
    Will Melco Letera run on Windows 95?

    Answer:
    Melco Letera is not compatible with Windows 95. Melco Letera can run on Windows 98, NT, 2000, and Millennium (ME).

     

  9. Question:
    Can I use Melco Letera with EDSIII or is it a separate program?

    Answer:
    Melco Letera is a stand-alone program that can be used along with EDSIII.

     

  10. Question:
    Does Melco Letera retain pattern fills when scaling designs?

    Answer:
    Yes, Melco Letera does retain pattern fills when scaling.

     

  11. Question:
    If I buy a new computer, do I need a new access code?

    Answer:
    No, a new access code is not needed. Just install Melco Letera on your new computer and use your original access code. Make sure you keep your access code in a safe place for future use.

     

  12. Question:
    Will Melco Letera work with the Amazing Box?

    Answer:
    Yes. You can scale your designs and add lettering in Melco Letera and save to a format that the Amazing Box software can open. Then you can open your design in the Amazing Box software and write the design to the embroidery card.

     

  13. Question:
    Is Melco Letera compatible with the Virtual PC program for Macintosh Computers?

    Answer:
    Melco Letera does not support the Virtual PC program for Macintosh.

     

  14. Question:
    Will Melco Letera save designs larger than the Pfaff 120 hoop?

    Answer:
    At this time, Melco Letera does not support large Pfaff hoops. Please check back periodically for updates.

     

  15. Question:
    Does Melco Letera come with a cable to connect the computer to the Pfaff machine?

    Answer:
    Melco Letera is a stand-alone program and does not come with any connecting cables. Please contact your local dealer for information on connecting your computer to your machine.

     

  16. Question:
    Does Melco Letera come with Digitizing?

    Answer:
    Melco Letera is primarily for scaling and combining designs and does not contain any digitizing features.

     

  17. Question:
    Does Melco Letera have the capability to “split” designs?

    Answer:
    Melco Letera does not give you the capability of splitting designs manually. Splitting occurs automatically for the following machines:
    Pfaff (.pcs) – file splits if exceeds 16 colors or 14,000 stitches
    Poem/Singer (.csd) – file splits if exceeds 14 colors
    Singer (xxx) – file splits on some combination of colors and stitches; will split design if file exceeds hoop limit
    Viking (.hus) – option to split if more then 12 colors or 30,000 stitches; will split design if file exceeds hoop limit

     

  18. Question:
    Does Melco Letera read/write the Artista .art format?

    Answer:
    At this time Melco Letera does not support the .art format. Please check back periodically for updates.

     

  19. Question:
    Does Melco Letera have font and monogramming capabilities?

    Answer:
    Melco Letera is a stand-alone software package for scaling designs, combining designs, creating lettering, and adding lettering to designs. Melco Letera comes with 6 alphabets and 1 monogramming font.

     

  20. Question:
    Does Melco Letera perform batch conversion?

    Answer:
    Melco Letera does not have batch conversion capabilities.

     

  21. Question:
    Will Melco Letera read/write designs in the old Stellar 1 format?

    Answer:
    Melco Letera does not support the “premier” format that is used by the Stellar machines.

     

  22. Question:
    Can Melco Letera reduce designs smaller than the 20% guaranteed by Dakota Collectibles?

    Answer:
    Melco Letera will allow sizing greater than 20%. However, Melco does not approve of going past the digitizer’s recommendations. These recommendations are set by the digitizers depending on digitizing techniques and equipment.

     

  23. Question:
    Will Melco Letera access designs from programs other than embroidery programs?

    Answer:
    Melco Letera will only open the embroidery design formats listed on www.melco.com/sizer. Graphic files can not be opened in Melco Letera.

     

  24. Question:
    Does Melco Letera require a dongle?

    Answer:
    Melco Letera does not require a dongle. An access code is included with the software and is required when loading Melco Letera.

     

  25. Question:
    Does purchasing Melco Letera from a vendor other then Melco void future update downloads?

    Answer:
    No, ALL updates are available from the Melco Letera WEB site and are available to all who have purchased Melco Letera.

     

  26. Question:
    Can I order Melco Letera over the phone?

    Answer:
    Yes. You can call Melco Customer Service at 1-800-877-4272 to order Melco Letera by phone.

     

  27. Question:
    Does Melco Letera have a limited number of installs?

    Answer:
    No. You can install Melco Letera as many times as needed. However, the program will not run if the Melco Letera CD is not in the CD ROM holder.

     

  28. Question:
    Can you change colors to see how the design will sew out?

    Answer:
    With Melco Letera, changing colors is simple. Just right click on the color palette, and choose properties. Then you can select the color you would like to se on the screen. Melco Letera includes thread charts from the major thread suppliers and has a thread chart matching tool.

     

  29. Question:
    Can Melco Sizer save designs to a graphic file (such as .jpg)?

    Answer:
    Melco Letera will only save designs to the embroidery formats listed on www.melco-service.com/sizer. Melco Letera does not save graphic files.

     

  30. Question:
    Can I edit designs in Melco Letera such as delete color sections, add color changes, edit by stitch point, or cut out a portion of a design to be used in another design?

    Answer:
    These capabilities are editing functions found in editing software. Since Melco Letera is primarily for scaling designs, combining designs, and creating lettering, none of these editing functions are available.

     

  31. Question:
    How can I become a dealer for Melco Letera?

    Answer:
    If you are interested in carrying Melco Letera as one of your retail products, go to www.melco-service.com/letera and click on the Dealer’s Page button. Next click on contact us and fill out the information form. A Melco Letera expert will then follow up with you about becoming a dealer for Melco Letera.

     

  32. Question:
    How can I print the instructions for Melco Letera?

    Answer:
    You can print out the entire HTML Help System by following the instructions below:
    1. Click on the “Contents” tab
    2. Select the top level folder (i.e. “Edit Menu”), to select just click on it to highlight
    3. Right click and chose “Print” or click on the “Print” button at the top
    4. Click in the circle next to “Print selected heading and all subtopics”
    5. Do this for each folder

     

  33. Question:
    Will I be able to open large hoop designs or multi-hoop designs in Melco Letera so I can decrease the size to fit a regular hoop?

    Answer:
    Yes, you can open large and multi-hoop designs with Melco Letera to reduce the design size.

     

  34. Question:
    Does Melco Letera allow you to change size by % or only by click and drag?

    Answer:
    Melco Letera allows you to scale designs by both % or by the click and drag feature.

     

  35. Question:
    Will Melco Letera read/write the old Melco EXP format on Melco formatted diskettes used with the Superstar and Starlet machines?

    Answer:
    Melco Letera will read/write the Melco expanded format. However, your computer must have a floppy drive controller that is capable of reading/writing the Melco format disk to make a disk for a Superstar or Starlet machine. The are 2 ways a Melco EXP or CND file can be distributed. On a DOS disk (most common) or on a Melco Formatted disk. The older Superstar and Starlet machines read ONLY Melco Formatted disks.

     

  36. Question:
    Can I convert .exp designs to .cnd designs?

    Answer:
    NO, Melco Letera will NOT convert .exp data designs to .cnd designs. ALL home formats are .exp data.
