Although there are many computer companies and distributors available to purchase a computer from, not all meet the specifications needed to correctly operate Melco software and hardware.

bulletBe aware that ALL computer hardware issues are the responsibility of the end user. Melco cannot be responsible for the performance or compatibility of components or products not purchased through Melco. The Melco Technical Support staff will NOT be able to assist with configuring any other software or hardware that will be operating in conjunction with Melco software. The following information is designed to help with your selection of a computer, but Melco is not responsible for any errors, omissions, or incompatibility issues.

Special Notes:
bulletThis document is based on the current Melco EDS IV software.
bulletEDS IV software uses features and files that require Microsoft Internet Explorer©. If the computer that EDS IV is being installed into has Internet Explorer© version 4.0 or lower, the EDS IV Installation CD will install Internet Explorer© 5.0. EDS IV IS NOT compatible with Netscape ONLY systems. Netscape© and Internet Explorer© can both be installed on the same computer with no conflicts or problems.
bulletOlder EDS3 and EDS2 software have different requirements. EDS3 Ethernet Networking does not work correctly with Windows Millenium©. If EDS3 is to be used in a Windows Millenium© computer, ENS must be used with it for proper networking to Melco embroidery machines with Ethernet connections.
bulletOwners of EMC type machines have special computer needs in order to make the "ISA StarLan" connection function correctly. In order for the Melco Network PCB or "StarLan" PCB to function, the computer must have an open ISA slot to install the PCB into. It has also been found that the computer motherboard must have an INTEL© chip set. The VIA© chip set will NOT work correctly with the Melco Network PCB. Melco now has a PCi StarLan PCB. It is compatible with Windows 98SE and higher. Contact your sales person or Melco Technical Support for information on this board.
bullet User's who require non DOS (Melco, Barudan, ZSK) format functionality should be aware that not all computers support this capability.
bulletIt is highly recommended that you contact Melco before purchasing a computer. Please refer to the last page for the Melco Support Policy.

Minimum Requirements

Many computer manufacturers build their systems using proprietary technology. Many of these systems utilize hardware and components that are not compatible with Melco hardware and software. Melco recommends avoiding large discount and department stores when purchasing a computer. Instead, consult a business that specializes in custom-built systems. You can provide such a business with Melco system requirements and have a custom system built to function properly. Large discount and department stores usually cannot provide this level of customization.

Because there are a wide variety of personal computers available in the marketplace today, BEFORE YOU PURCHASE YOUR NEW COMPUTER call Melco's Technical Support Staff to answer any compatibility questions you may have. Melco cannot be responsible for the performance or compatibility of components or products not purchased through Melco.
